Although there is no official press release yet, it appears another Internet sex sting is in process in Lake County. The best way to not get arrested is to not commit a crime. If you are on the Internet or using a social media dating application and anyone even hints that they are 12, 13 or 14 years old, terminate all texting or conversation and flag the ad. Everyone’s goal is to protect underage kids and kids should not be on dating sites. If someone indicates they are a child, do your part to get them off the Internet and report them.
HOW INTERNET SEX STING OPERATIONS WORK:
The police often do a bait and switch on the phone applications and Internet dating sites and try and convince otherwise law abiding people to chat with or meet with children. You see shows on television and media reports by law enforcement all the time reporting arrests of people who travel to meet a minor or solicit a minor for sex. Never chat or test with anyone that says they are underage no matter how tempting they are. I have never seen a case where there is a real parent or guardian on the Internet offering a daughter or son for sex. I have seen dozens of cases where the police put up ads suggesting “family fun” or “Taboo sex” and then in chats offer kids for sex. Do not do something stupid and even for a second think about hooking up with a child. Parents in the real world have parental controls on their kid’s computers and in the last ten years, I have not seen one case where there is a real child trying to hook up on any adult site. Do not get entrapped or talked into doing something you would otherwise never do. I have handled 29 Internet sex sting cases all over Central and Western Florida and never once have a seen an instance of a real child on the Internet. It is always the police.
TO AVOID INTERNET SEX STING INVOLVEMENT WHEN LOOKING FOR AN ADULT ON AN ADULT DATING SITE: IMMEDIATELY FLAG THE AD AND DISCONTINUE COMMUNICATION IF THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE A CHILD OR UNDER ADULT AGE.
There are really good reasons to avoid all contact with children on the Internet. You can get arrested for simply talking or sending a pic. You can be arrested for a “thought crime” and never actually traveling anywhere. Never send in inappropriate picture of your genitals to anyone, much less a child. You will get arrested, have a high bond set and be faced with lifetime registration as a sex offender. Your life can be ruined forever. The Internet is a minefield for lonely men.
If you think you are under investigation or a family member, a son, father or close relative has been arrested for:
