Clearwater Sheriff at it Again in Sex Stings

Here we go again with yet another sex sting called Operation Cyber Justice October 1, 2014. This Sex Sting involving about thirty officers and costing $80,000 netted only ten arrests. The same thing happened in the latest North Port sting. The police claim that the dismal results are because they are driving the sex predators off of the Internet. The simple fact is that the entrapment techniques used in the past are simply not working any more. From day one, the Internet stings have for the most part caught men who had no intention or previous disposition to search for or engage in sex with a minor. The police in the latest stings have changed their approach and targeted sites like and They post a profile as an adult and then rely on the program to contact other adults. When a match is made by indicating another consenting adult is nearby¸ contact is made. It is then they do the basic bait and switch with a comment like “Gosh, I am sorry, I am only 15”. They then try and engage the suspect chat with enticing seduction innuendo. Some gullible men fall for this ploy. The net result is men get talked into traveling to meet a minor or sexting and sending inappropriate pics to the minor. The best way to avoid getting arrested is to not try to hook up on the Internet. If anyone even hints they are underage, terminate all contact and flag or report it to the Internet dating service. Never chat with a minor

There is a hearing coming up on the 31st of October regarding the last sting run in Pinellas County. In that sting the police used a military OSI investigator by the name of William Glidewell as the chatter. It is a violation of Federal law to use the military in purely State investigations. The interesting issue is whether or not the police officers who approved his participation also committed a felony. I have now represented men in approximately twenty sting across Florida and find the police conduct shocking. The public really needs to understand what the I chatters and co-operating law enforcement agencies are doing. When they spend $80,000, there is great pressure to make an arrest to justify the cost and the police really push the envelope to entrap men. I am involved in one case where the man refused to fall for the trick and even blocked the undercover chatter. Even though he did not travel, they arrested him anyway for simply talking dirty. We now have “thought police” hell bent on making arrests where crimes are not even committed. Eventually, the public will realize what is happening. In the meantime I encourage me to stay off the dating sites entirely. If you are on an Internet dating site, chances are, you are talking with a cop.

The Cops are the Real Internet Sex Predators

The Cops are the Real Internet Sex Predators Operation Cyber Justice October1, 2014
The police are now really pushing the envelope when it comes to entrapment in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota County. It has gone way beyond the police simply putting up seductive profiles on Craigslist Casual Encounters and waiting for a reply. In a recent case I handled in Pinellas I learned that the police are using sites like and to let computers do the matching. If you are on with your profile, simply looking for another adult, chances are you may be matched with an undercover cop by simply putting up an innocent profile. The police are now letting the dating sites do the matching before they do their bait and switch.
The police are constantly running Internet sex stings on the west coast of Florida in towns like Bradenton, Sarasota and Clearwater. It is an easy way to generate arrest statistics and publicity. This is particularly true in the Summer season when arrests are down and they need to bump up their statistics. The best way to meet women is the old fashioned way where you walk up and introduce yourself. The Internet is a dangerous place. You do not even have to be on a computer. If you have an Iphone, you are in danger of being matched with and undercover cop. Once you respond you can expect to hear or see something like, “Sorry, I am really only 14 and was just curious about this site”. The police may even invite you to travel to meet them and make it sound really tempting. Even if you do not travel they may charge you for simply chatting or texting. The police may put up ads on pretending to be prostitutes. If you respond they will then try and bait you saying “I am really only 15”. The cops may pretend to be a “pimp” and try and tempt you with things like she is really good.
The best way to not get charged with a sex crime in Bradenton or Sarasota is to not commit the crime. They are even more intense in operations in Volusia and Brevard counties snaring innocent victims trying to get a date on adult dating sites. No matter how tempting the ad or conversation may be, hang up, disconnect and flag the ad with the provider. If someone is on the Internet and claims to be a minor, report them to the police. Do not even think about having sex with someone underage, much less fantasize about it in texts or chats on the Internet. The “Thought Police” are watching.
If someone suggests sending pictures of a minor, do not do it. If someone who purports to be underage, asks you for a “pic”, do not send it. AS A SEX CRIMES ATTORNEY, I have now been involved in about twenty of the recent Internet Sex Stings and can tell you from experience, the police are becoming more creative and aggressive in their entrapment techniques. If you see words like “taboo”, go no further. Do not even go on sites like or
If you are contacted be absolutely sure about the age of the person on the other end. The number one lie on the Internet is about age. The number two lie on the Internet is about gender. Always thoroughly check out the identity of the person on the other end before any date. If the person is even remotely underage or even close, go no further. Call me, Peter D. Military Involved In 2014 Sex Sting Investigations

Military Involved In 2014 Sex Sting Investigations
In a decision decided last Friday, September 19, 2014, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held that the “Posse Commitatus” law prohibits military investigators from widespread and pervasive intrusion into State Criminal investigations. As a Sex Crimes Attorney, that is the exact issue I raised in a recent case now pending in Pinellas County. I found out that Air Force OSI investigator William Glidewell has been used as the “chatter” in four Florida sex sting operations involving cases in Lake, Osceola and Pinellas Counties. His actions are illegal and a violation of Federal law. The case in Pinellas could impact a number of other prosecutions in both the State and Federal Courts. If Glidewell was the chatter in your case, contact your attorney and let him know about the case I now have pending in Pinellas.
The Federal law, 18 U.S. C 1385 was passed after the civil war to prevent Union soldiers from enforcing State laws. It makes it a Federal felony for the military to enforce purely State laws. Glidewell is actually in the operational plan which on its face documents the military involvement. This could be an important decision. A 2014 hearing is now set for late October in Circuit Court in Pinellas. Another issue is whether or not the law enforcement officials that used him have violated the Federal law. Each Sheriff who approved the use of the military could be found to be in violation of the law. Fat chance they will be prosecuted because that decision is left up to the U. S. Attorney who will never in million years prosecute a Sheriff or Chief of Police. The law is good law and still in force and should be upheld.
Take a look at the recent Ninth Circuit decision. It can impact a number of cases around the country. As a Florida sex sting lawyer I have raised a unique issue that could impact a number of cases. If your jnternet sex sting case involves OSI investigator Glidewell, have your lawyer call me Peter D. Aiken at my office and I will send him the sex sting defense information I have gathered so far. It seems all of law enforcement wants to jump on the sex sting band wagon but the Air Force has made a huge mistake and Glidewell could be prosecuted if a prosecutor had the courage to do it.
I will keep everyone advised as to how this plays out in October.

Can the Military Police Conduct 2014 Internet Sex Stings ?

Can the Military Police Conduct Internet Sex Stings  2014?
This is one of the issues that will be addressed in a hearing coming up in Pinellas County on February 19th, 2014. There is an Air Force OSI agent by the name of William Glidewell that has been working with the State in four sex stings in the last year as the Internet “chatter”. He started with the Central Florida ICAC task force administered by Sheriff Grady Judd and “chatted” first in a case in Lake County. Recently, he participated in two stings in Pinellas County as well as four Federal cases in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida. Many of these men facing sex sting related charges which may lead to life altering court records and future of possible Florida probation and sex offender registration.
I have challenged his legal authority and the legality of his participation in purely “State” criminal investigations. There is a Federal Statute that was created just after the Civil War that makes it illegal for the military to conduct state criminal investigations. In the Pinellas case, Glidewell chatted with a man for two days and lured him to travel to Clearwater and did not disclose age until the man arrived outside the “take down” location. The Clearwater case also involves a motion to dismiss based on “Entrapment as a matter of law”. I expect a ruling on both the Federal issue as well as the entrapment issue within the next month.
The Federal Statute known as the “Posse Comitatus” law could impact a number of State cases across Florida in that Glidewell’s participation could be considered a felony violation of the Federal Law. There has never been a prosecution under the Posse Comitatus law but that does not mean that this will not be the first. It is unlikely the United States Attorney will do anything because Glidewell is a witness for them in a number of cases. Maybe the Department of Justice will get involved and bring this to a head. In the meantime, I am contacting the Air Force to alert them to the fact that military investigators are not supposed to be enforcing State laws.
The Internet Sex stings are out of control and many innocent men are being entrapped by undercover officers that are actually luring and enticing them to travel to meet minors. Sex is powerful bait and the law is being abused regularly by local law enforcement. The time and effort would be better spent educating young girls about the dangers of the Internet.
If you or someone you know is facing charges after a Florida Internet Sex Sting of traveling to meet a minor, improper use of a communication device, internet solicitation of a minor, attempted child abuse or potential charges as a result of an arrest after a cyber child sex sting operation and need to talk about your options, please call me, Peter D. Aiken at 941-366-3506 today for a free consultation.

Polk County at it again in Cyberchild III Child Porn Internet Sex Sting July 2014

Yet another internet sex sting was announced July 1, 2014 in Polk County.  Sheriff Grady Judd again on television announced the arrest of another sixteen men in this latest child porn sex sting.  Although the facts are not yet public, as a Florida Sex Sting Trial Lawyer,in all likelihood undercover Sheriff’s deputies were again trolling the Internet trying to induce men into either sending or receiving child porn or traveling to meet a minor.  It is important to remember that these men are assumed to be innocent.  In the past, as the true facts unfold we learn that in many of the so called sex stings, it the undercover officers that are the ones luring, seducing and enticing otherwise law abiding men into succumbing to temptation.  If a loved one has been arrested, do not assume they are guilty.  Sadly, most of the time, families and employers abandon men based solely on the criminal charges that are filed.

As a sex sting and sex crime lawyer, the one thing I have learned is not to prejudge a situation.  There is a world of difference between an accusation and proof beyond a reasonable doubt.  Over the next few days and weeks we will learn more about this the latest Florida sex sting.

As a Child Pornography Defense Attorney, I often see that some people assume that if a person possesses child porn, they go on to molest children.  In most instances, this is simply not true.  Over the years I have found that many of the men that are charged with possession of child pornography were victims themselves in their youth.  Viewing pictures of minors does not mean that a person molests minors.  Often child pornography images can end up accidently on a computer.  Even if a person tries to delete a child pornography image, it unfortunately still remains in the unallocated space part of the hard drive.  Not all criminal defense lawyers understand the ins and outs of child pornography defense or understand or appreciate the difficulty of defending sex crimes.  If a relative or loved one has been arrested in a sex sting feel free to call for a free consultation.

I have handled sex sting and child porn cases in Sarasota, Manatee, Lee, Polk, Seminole, Pinellas, Lake, Osceola Counties and have followed cases in all other counties in Florida and other States for years and have good grip on what it a takes to win.  Call my office in Sarasota at 941 366 3506 or visit our office in Sarasota 2060 Ringling Blvd Sarasota, Florida 34237. we also have offices in Ft. Myers and Punta Gorda. As a Florida Sex Crimes Attorney and an experienced Florida Sex Sting Trial Lawyer, I will be glad to answer all questions you and with your permission, your family’s questions regarding your arrest and what your future options can be.

If you are under investigation or have been arrested in a Florida sex sting operation involving child pornography, traveling to meet a minor, communicating with a minor on the internet or texting with intent to have sex with a minor or attempted lewd and lacivious acts against a minor via the internet and need a attorney that has Internet Child Sex Sting Defense and Child Pornography Defense Trial Experience call me, Peter Aiken today at 941 366-3506.

The Manatee Sheriff and other law enforcement agencies have been running a sting called Operation Green Shepherd III in Manatee since last Wednesday February 12, 2014.  In this Bradenton, Manatee County Sex Sting Operation there has been no press release yet but it will come any day.

This time, in addition to Craigslist, they also posted profiles as adults on other sites like  They actually solicited adults and engaged them in emails, texts and chat. They police lied initially saying they were an adult looking for an adult.  The police actually solicited the people to travel and were in some instance the first to mention sex.  All of this is in violation of ICAC standards and procedures and constitutes entrapment.

I was blogging on the sting as it was happening.  The police agencies all over in Florida seem to be in a contest to see who can entrap the most people.  A sting was also running in Lake County.  In the last couple of sex stings the police have changed their focus and are randomly targeting adults looking for adults.  The police are the true sex predators targeting innocent young men who are on adult sites looking to meet other adults.  In just the first half of February of 2014 here in Central Florida there have already been two stings that have run for sure.

The police undercover ads on Craigslist are obvious.  They use terms like “home alone” and when they get someone to respond say something like, “I am only 14, I lied”.  Many times after they engage someone in texts they will say “I don’t have much experience”.  They will often say, “parents are away” or use a term like “spring break” and mention high school.

Never have contact with anyone who could be a minor.  If anyone even hints they may be underage, terminate all contact and flag the ad.  I know that most of the people arrested never intended to hook up with a child and were only talked into it.  Do not let simple curiosity get the best of you.  Stay away from and Craigslist.  If you even text with an undercover officer you may get arrested for simply thinking about sex.   So when you see a text that says “I am shy and inexperienced lol”, walk away.  Never send a pic of your penis to anyone.  The best way to never get arrested and need a sex sting lawyer like me is to not commit a crime to begin with.  If you have questions call 941 366 3506 for a free consultation or visit my sex crime defense site at
