Is there a sex sting going on in Pinellas now?
As a Florida sex sting attorney, I have handled cases in Pinellas county (Clearwater sex sting), Hillsborough county (Tampa sex sting), Sarasota county (Sarasota sex sting), Manatee county (Bradenton sex sting), Seminole county (Orlando sex sting), and Lee county (Ft. Myers sex sting), every now and then I come across ads posted on Backpage that really look unusual. There is an ad running today, April 10th, 2014 that really does not appear to be genuine. The ad running in Clearwater is as follows:
curious and looking for a teacher – m4m (pinellas county)
body : average
Home alone and curious about what is going on with me. Hit me up if you can help me figure this out.
- do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers

This ad appears to be from a gay man (not a child) looking for someone to teach him about sex. As a Florida sex sting lawyer, It has all of the hallmarks of a police undercover ad since it uses phrases like “home alone” and words like “curious” and “looking for a teacher”. It very well could be legitimate but this is the type of ad no one should respond to. The best way to prevent being arrested is to not commit a crime. Never chat with a minor. Never email a minor. If you responded to this ad and the person on the other end even remotely hinted they were a minor, you should not reply. If you are gay and looking to hookup, for sure you don’t want it to be with anyone under 18. Ask for verification of age. Do not take their word for it. As a Sarasota sex crime lawyer I all too often see young men entrapped when they had no predisposition or intent to ever hook up with a minor. Stay off Backpage. Stay off of Craigslist casual encounter. Do not let curiosity get the best of you. Never communicate with a minor or someone who says they are a minor. If you or someone you know has communicated on the internet and was arrested in a Florida sex sting, As a Florida sex crimes attorney, I will be glad to talk with you or your loved ones about your options in these types of cases. I find that questions arise after a sex sting operation such as: Is a sex sting operation considered entrapment? Should or can I get out on bond? Did I tell the arresting cops too much and can they use the information I gave? and What are my options?
