Entrapment Rampant in Latest Pinellas Sex Sting
Noah Pransky of Channel 10 News has taken the first step in exposing the flagrantly illegal tactics used in the latest Internet sex sting run in the Tampa Bay area. The undercover officers are violating all of the basic ICAC rules and procedures. Their OPERATION HOME ALONE tactics were exposed with the publication of the latest email communications on television (READ: Redacted email chain submitted to 10 News (WARNING – GRAPHIC). The officers are targeting adults in adult sites. The officers are sending pictures of minors and the Pinellas Sheriff’s detectives are actually trying to seduce adults with offers of sex with children. The public is being misled by the Pinellas Sheriff and the Clearwater police department. The Pinellas Sheriff’s office claims that they are going to “eradicate” the child predators and “purge” the County of child sex offenders. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is simply not true. In many of the recent cases innocent men were arrested and entrapped when the police approached them, sent them photographs and suggested meetings. Time will tell as these cases go through the system. As a sex crime attorney I can tell you that in reviewing some of the initial emails, texts and posts, it is obvious that the cases are clearly entrapment. The Channel 10 exposure of this conduct is only the tip of the iceberg.
In the latest report actual texts were exposed. When the undercover officer was confronted online with the fact they as a “minor” he should not be on craigslist and should not be bringing up sex the Sheriff declined comment.
The public really needs to be aware of what is really happening. The police are not detecting or preventing crime. They are creating it to generate arrests, seizures and prosecutions. The problem is that when the Sheriff goes on television he makes it appear to be something that it is not. Hopefully the State Attorney will see this for what it really is. You can go to the Channel 10 site and actually look at the posts and emails that were posted by law enforcement. Hopefully, in many of the recent arrests, the truth will prevail.
